I hear those words being thrown about quite a lot on here lately.
There are only so many reasons someone would say something is offensive. Either it's hurting someone, or it makes someone uncomfortable.
It seems that any time someone says something, if others don't agree with it, they consider it offensive. To that I say "Tough Tits". You can disagree all you want with someone, hell you can even feel hurt by their choice of words, but unless someone is belittling you without provocation, then their offense only extends to how much you want it to hurt. Take IHLAOY for example; whilst we do not agree and I do feel that they take things much too far some times, this individual is conversing primarily, and offending secondarily. In other words, the offense given is never their first intention as far as I have seen. Even if they shoot you down over and over again it is mixed in to either constructive criticism or a reality check. I do not agree with their methods, but I cannot fault them for being offensive.
The second reason someone would claim something offensive is because it makes them uncomfortable. I hate to inform you all of this, but there are going to be a lot of things out there that will make you uncomfortable. I personally don't think anything with the exception of spewing insults without reason can truly be considered offensive.
With that being said, I do believe that rules should be enforced more than personal opinions. So while I don't personally find something offensive, I do feel it necessary to stand by what the website finds offensive. Things that are brought to my attention as offensive will be handled with both viewpoints in mind. -
There are plenty of things that piss me off, but I refrain from flagging their posts unless they literally tell me to go suck a dick.
