And here are some suggested changes:
The Theater (formerly Movies, combine with television?)
The Ballroom (formerly Music)
The Lounge (formerly Offbeat)
The Study (formerly Psychology and Personality)
The Wine Cellar (formerly Politics, include debates)
The Garden (formerly Religion and Spirituality)
The Gym (formerly Sports, add health and fitness too)
X Television Shows
The Map Room (formerly International)
The Playroom (formerly Anime)
The Front Porch (formerly Dating and Relationships)
The Arcade (formerly Video Games)
The Library (formerly Literature)
The Office (Feedback and Updates)
*The Stage (role playing)
*The Garage (automotive, mechanics)
*The Kitchen (cuisine/cooking)
*The Workshop (arts and crafts)
*The Server Room (programming, web design, and technology)
Okay, so..
What's your opinion on the naming theme? Should television be combined with movies? Should "international" topics go with politics and debate? The ones above with a * are new. -
I think it is good the changes you've made so far. But i am not very judgemental.

I personally disagree with the names. While they're more interesting, I feel like in order to help newer users or anyone who actually does have a legitimate question and doesn't know the meaning of each name, there would either have to be a description or we'd have to stick with the old names.
However, I do agree with Television Shows being combined with Movies and Actors. International shouldn't go with Poltics, since not all international subjects belong with politics. If I wanted to find others who had Scottish heritage, the thread would contrast with one on the matter of a current law being passed.
My apologies if this is a little difficult to comprehend. I've been looking at things I wrote in elementary school. I swear I'm getting dumber by the minute. -
These are good. Nice indeed. But just a few things.
* The Theater shouldn't include TV shows, but TV shows should be made into it's own forum. I'm not sure what it's name would be, though.
* The Religion and Spirituality should maybe be called "The Church" or something.
* Like you said, "The Garden" is Religion and Spirituality, but I think "The Garden" should be made into it's own forum, about flowers and nature.
So yup. This is only my opinion, I'm not telling you to do it, but I'm suggesting it. -
The new names
are good, but I think they'll make the forums less simple and more confusing. -
I'm biased and I'll admit that, but with that being said:
The name changes are supposed to embody an estate-like theme. Different rooms in an upper class, 1940's style estate. While yes, for people who aren't familiar with these terms, they would be awkward for a little while. But the intention is to add a bit of class and new life to the forums.
I honestly think that a change of any kind can help bring a bit of new life around here. I say we try it. -

Hey, maybe we could have the option to switch between the simple and fancy names, or have the simple names in parenthesis alongside the fancy ones.

I agree with Selena, it might cause less confusion.
Yet it might not make it as fancy if you put parenthesis. -
i think they are fine. television would be good with movies and i think international should have its own thread maybe

There is a description at the top of the page when you click on a forum. Just sayin.
