  In the event this guy did say this, and it was directed to you, then yea he likes you. Most guys would not privately share this experience within a public domain.
  
  If he said it while looking at you, he's trying to exhibit his emotions towards you but hiding them, showing a micro emotional release by talking to his friend while in sight of you.
