I was talking to a guy a few months ago, right about a little after Thanksgiving.
I feel like after hearing about some other peoples' talking stages, I'm realizing that mine was very sweet.
It's so funny, though. We had each other on snap and he was just very flirty and stuff, which I thought was cute but I kind of felt like he did that for every other girl, so I'm like whatever. He left me on opened and it was at a time where I was just coincidentally getting left on opened by a lot of guys, so I thought it was on purpose. I unadded him because I was just really sick of guys at that point.
It was the same day that his school had a football game, so I decided to go with my friends because we knew people on both teams and it was a Friday night so it would be really fun. Anyways, we walk in and sit by the student section of his school. He's literally two rows of bleachers in front of us, and we just like made eye-contact for a second. I didn't realize it at the time, but he had accidentally left me on opened and he literally looks down at his phone and saw that I unadded him. He was trying to message me that he saw me at the game and then realized I'd unadded him.
I felt icky after, because I hate seeing guys that I unadd, just b/c it's awkward.
A month later, maybe, he added me back on snap. It was through a mutual friend and stuff. We talked a little bit that night and then I was like, "I need to address the awkwardness". And I apologized to him and told him that I felt so bad that I had unadded him. He said it was no big deal and that he understood. I literally started crying because it was really sweet and he didn't seem mad at all.
We started talking more and FaceTiming.
I don't even need to talk about how we stopped talking, because I don't even know myself. I think it was just a mix of a few things. But here are a few sweet things that we said/did.
He asked me what I wanted for Christmas (as small talk), and I told him that I really liked this one hoodie (that he just happened to have). He told me that he could get me one because they sold them at one of his tournaments, and invited me to go.
He was at his family's beach house and was home alone, while I was out with my grandparents. He was talking to me and we got onto the topic of movies, and I told him that my favorite movie was Interstellar. He started watching it and talked with me the entire time, even though I don't think he really liked it. He also offered to watch it with me, which was very sweet.
I was having a really bad day, I felt crummy and stuff. He asked me if I was okay and I told him that I was just feeling s---ty. He told me that he had gotten me something, and I (regretfully) responded with a really dry answer b/c of how I was feeling, and I cried my eyes out in the middle of the store I was in b/c I felt so bad that I wasn't being the person that he deserved. He didn't even bring it up after, and just kept checking in on me and asking how I was feeling, or how he could make me feel better.
He told people on his team about how he thought I was so pretty and nice.
He also invited me to another one of his tournaments, even though it was themed and they were gonna be playing on the field dressed in Christmas-themed costumes.
When I was feeling bad, he just kept sending me hearts.
He never overreached with my friends. He only spoke to them when it was concerning me.
We would FaceTime and he'd tell me about his day and ask about mine, while we also gossiped about people in our grade.
I told him that I wanted highlights and he told me that I'd look really pretty with or without highlights. -
That should be the standard.

And I know it's a "failed" talking stage, because we never got past the talking part, but I think it was a really valuable experience. He just showed me my worth, and I shouldn't settle for any less than how he treated me.
I wouldn't consider it failed, because even though we don't talk anymore, and he unadded me, I don't think things would be awkward in real life.
He never did anything that was even mildly a red-flag, so I think that I would have no problem seeing him in real life or anything. -
He told his friends and parents about me, which makes me feel appreciated and like he's not ashamed that he's talking to me.
I think I really liked him because we had a lot in common. It's kind of crazy. -
I think it would have been ideal if we just maybe stopped talking and became friends instead. But because we rushed into a talking stage, we didn't really know how to take a step back and just let us be friends.

He really cared about me, though. So I think he would've been a really good friend.
