Thread Topic: Is it a bad thing to be homophobic?

Just asking bc (I’m not homophobic), but I’ve been exposed to a lot of homophobic people and I’d like to see people’s opinions :)
-
It is bad to be homophobic. It's just plain hatred and usually it's twords people they don't understand
-
I think disagreeing with LGBTQ+ and homophobia are two different things, because someone who's homophobic has a hatred for anyone LGBTQ+ and a lot of people called "homophobes" just don't agree with it or dislike it, not to the point of hatred tho
This is my personal opinion so take it w a grain of salt -
I feel like if you hate the LGBTQ+ community and who we are and what we stand for it’s better off to just not rub their unwanted opinions in our faces just like they don’t want ours 🥴🥴🥴
-
yes sir
-
absolutely
even if you look it up in the dictionary, it says “dislike of or prejudice against gay people.“ (of course i’d wish it said “against LGBTQ+ people but yes you get the point.)
really, homophobia is just very negative beliefs against something that doesn’t deserve it which doesn’t sound right
idk i’m bad at explaining things -
Definitely
-
yep.
-
I mean, if that is how they believe then they kinda have no control over what they believe. If they believe that LGBTQ+ is horrible and disgusting then that is how it is. Being homophobic isn't wrong, it only makes it wrong when you rub it in LGBTQ+ faces, and make it obvious with harassment.
-
tbh depends on the context
-
of course, it's bad.
JUST BECAUSE someone is LGBTQ+ DOES NOT MEAN you have to hate them! We are ALL different people and we need to treat people the way we want to be treated INSTEAD of hating people for NO VALID REASON! -
Disagreeing with LGBTQ+ is homophobic. Thinking it's bad or unnatural is also homophobic.
And it's wrong to be homophobic -
I feel as if it's alright to disagree with LGBTQ+, but I don't agree with hatred towards it. As Spice said, there's a difference between homophobes and disagreeing, and I definitely agree.
-
What's the difference? To me, when someone says the disagree with something, they think it's wrong. Disagreeing with being LGBTQ+ means you think there's something wrong with it, or it isn't right.
To me that's always felt the same as when people say "I don't have anything against it but it's still a sin." You're still saying there's something inherently wrong with it. Maybe it isn't the same severity of homophobia as ie calling someone the f slur, but it's still homophobic -
Guys, remember this is your opnion.
