  If I were you I would just ask him out really. If he doesn’t do it, you can always and not being like rude or anything, but what your parents said was very stereotypical. If a girl wants to ask a guy out, She can.
  There’s no right or wrong answer but if he really is shy, he would be kinda nervous to ask you out.
