Not trying to sound rude, but how do you not know if he has a girlfriend or not?

Kidnap him and clone him multiple times. Lock all of the clones in your basement.

I don't ask him if he has a girlfriend because then he might get suspicious

Here's how my epic boyfriend asked me out: He got to be my really good friend, and one day we started playing this game "What would you do if..." and we did random stuff like "What would you do if I stole your phone," etc. Then he said, "What would you do if I asked you out?" it's a cute and fun way. If you prefer something sweeter or more straightforward then by all means go ahead.
