Alright, first, here's a little bit about my computer.
I have a refurbished, first gen MacBook that's currently on OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8). It came with 500 GB, and here's a screenshot of the "About this Mac" thing (I didn't want to type it all because I'm a lazy ass).
I want to update to OS X Mavericks, especially since my school uses iPads now and almost all of the software I use on mine is only compatible with Mavericks. I've heard that it might not be the best idea, but I'd like to directly communicate with someone instead of just reading an old thread and I don't know if I have time to talk to anyone in real life.
