I want to learn how to draw the female and male figure. I'm pretty decent at drawing faces, but when it comes to bodies, I flunk out and it looks bad.
So, do you guys have a method you work with when you draw male and female anatomy, and are there any tutorials you could lead me to? -
Im good at drawing the female figure. Once you draw the face add two parallel lines to make a decent neck. Then you make two curves beside the neck for shoulders and leave it there. Then parallel to the shoulders, leave an opening to draw the arms later and draw curves for the sides.
Return to the neck and make the shirt you want. I find t-shirts easiest because of how I draw the shoulders. Then cover the chest by putting a v-neck, button, or plain top. Go to the hip of the shirt and draw the sides of the hip and the sides of the legs. If you are drawing a skirt then draw a line around the bottom of the shirt. Then draw the skirt around the top of the legs and draw shoes to cover up the gap. From the shoes, draw two lines to finish the lags.
If youre doing pants, draw an upside down v in between the sides of the legs and close the gap on the end with a pattern of your choice. After that, draw the shoes. For the arms, its easiest to draw the character with their hands on their hips. So draw two parallel lines curving from the sleeves of the shirt to the hip. Leave the gap and fill it with an oval. Then draw lines.
Now add the details, breast, laces, patterns, buttons, etc. Colour it in and then draw the background. This is pretty basic for drawing characters because this kind of character doesnt fit many scenes. But its the best I can do at the moment.
I find more difficulty in male figures, ears, and hands when it comes to art. -
Thank you~!
I'll be sure to try that out. I'm going to work on some drawings later tonight, so I'll see what I can do :3 -
Sorry, but that advice is... not really good advice. No offence. :/
You're telling her how to draw more of the clothes rather than the actually body.
If you are struggling with body anatomy, the first thing you have to do is actually START on the body first. Not the clothes. Jumping from body parts to other steps (aka clothes) can actually mess you up and can make a drawing look awkward. So :
TIP #1:
Focus and start on the body first. Don't worry about the clothes, accessories, etc.
TIP #2:
Study real life bodies! Take a sketchbook with you and just...gawk jk jk jk jk , I mean, dont be a creep about itstudy all the different body types. Take notes on body postures and poses. Sketch. It doesn't have to be a professional drawing. Your main goal is to practice how to draw bodies. SO get messy and sketchy.
TIP #3:
GUIDELINES. GUIDELINES ARE IMPORTANT. Use shapes, lines.. etc. Don't just jump into the body automatically. Set some guidelines so you'll know what to draw and how to draw them.
Check out this lovely old thread:
TIP #4:
The most important tip. Do I really have to day it.... Practice! PRACTICE.
Will add more tips when I think of some. -
