The trio lay on the grass in the warm summer sunset, letting their minds wander freely. "Brothers?" The middle child whispered.
"Yes?" The other two turned to look at him, one on each side.
"What will we do? Since we can't find Mother? Can we...Live peacefully now?"
"I dunno..." The oldest inhaled deeply. "It is nice. Living like this."
"Yeah..." The youngest yawned.
"Tired, Loz?" The middle one smiled.
"Tch! No way! Are you tired, Yazoo?"
"Not at all." Yazoo settled into a comfortable position placing his hands on his stomach. "Kadaj?"
"Hm?" The oldest glanced over, his hair not in his face for once.
"Will we see them?"
"See what?"
"The flashing bugs...The...Fireflies."
"Maybe. Maybe not."
Yazoo closed his eyes. He felt them water, but he wasn't sad. So why were tears forming? He was about to lift his arm to wipe them away, but Loz did it with his thumbs. He smiled. "Thanks, Loz."
"Heh. Don't cry, Yazoo."
"I'm not crying!" He laughed and gently pushed his brother. -
Loz pushed back,a little too hard, knocking him into Kadaj. Yazoo apologized and helped his older brother sit up. Kadaj coughed a bit. "Damnit...You knocked the air out of me, ya jerks!" He smiled and pushed Yazoo into Loz. They laughed.
Loz looked at the sky. "It's pretty..." He blinked, watching the beautiful yellow fade slowly to orange and then later red. "Why does it come up yellow, but go down red?" He asked.
Yazoo looked up at him. "Because red is the color that travels the farthest."
"That was so cliché..." Kadaj stated.
"So?!" The prettyboy glared. "You give a better explaination then!"
"I don't have one." He replied.
"Then don't judge me!" He growled and leaned against Loz. Again, his eyes teared up. This time they travelled slowly down his cheeks and along his nose. Why? He asked himself. -
Yazoo looked at the ground, watching for the little bugs with glowing butts. He found it strange how they glowed from the buttocks. How is it possible? He felt a firm hand grip his shoulder. The boy looked up. "What is it, Loz?"
He didnt look at him, just kept his hand on his shoulder.
Yazoo flinched as Kadaj rested his head in his lap, his eyes closed. He smiled and stroked his big brother's short-ish hair. Kadaj took his hand and just held it, feeling how soft it was. "Soft...Lotion?"
Yazoo nodded slowly. "You know how I feel about my skin."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." He let it go and Yazoo stroked his hair again.
"You're pretty too, Kadaj." He watched a small smile appear on his face and grinned. "Heh..." -
Kadaj stood up and stretched once the sun had completely fallen. It was getting dark now, so Yazoo payed more attention to nature than to his brothers who were trying to get him to go inside. He was oblivious to them now, watching for the strange bugs. "...Loz?" He asked. "Could you get me a small empty jar?"
"Er...Okay?" He found it weird that Yazoo would ask for a jar, but shrugged it off and looked for one.
"...Where are you lightning bugs...?" He asked himself.
Loz set the jar on the ground beside him and watched with Yazoo. "What are gonna do with the jar?"
"Catch one, maybe two."
"Oh..."
The brother's watched for at least fifteen to twenty minutes before they saw little lights flash. Yazoo smiled and ran towards them enthusiastically. "They're beautiful!" He yelled trying to catch one.
"I-I'll get on too!" Loz shouted, feeling left out and forgotten. He attempted to catch one, but accidentally squished it. He whimpered, about to cry. "It died..."
"Don't cry, Loz." Yazoo smiled. "You have to make a cup. Don't clap." He showed his brother, catching one. "See?"
"Oh, okay." He tried and managed to catch a little one. "Yay! It's not crushed!" Loz smiled. Yazoo laughed and closed them in the jar. -
After collected about 10 of the little bugs, Yazoo grabbed the jar and ran inside to show Kadaj. Loz followed after his brother, yawning. Kadaj was sitting in the living room with his legs to his chest, watching tv. He glanced over at his grinning brothers. "Stop that. It's creepy."
"But we're so happy! Hehe!" Yazoo giggled and set the jar on the coffee table.
Kadaj jumped onto the back of the couch. "Why did you bring those disgusting things in HERE?!"
"What's wrong, Kadaj? Afraid of bugs?" His younger brothers laughed.
"N-No! They're just creepy! Like you two!" He yelled.
"No need to yell..." Loz whined and covered his ears.
"Just...Both of you get rid of them and get to bed..." Kadaj hopped off the couch and walked to his room.
"Come on, Loz." Yazoo pouted and walked outside with the jar. Loz stood beside him as he opened the jar, freeing the beautiful bugs. Yazoo watched, his eyes watered and he wiped them away, but they formed again. "Why...Why am I crying?" He looked at Loz, who just blinked at him.
"...Don't cry, big brother." He smiled and ruffled his long hair.
Yazoo smiled and grabbed his hand. "Let's go to bed." With that he wandered inside with his brother.
