Thread Topic: Do you guys have any advice/tips for people starting cosplay
-
I've seen some videos on youtube about cosplay and it helped, but any other things you guys know? .3.
I'm sure some of you cosplay, right? o3o -
Wait, that was a horrible question to ask.
How do you guys get started with making the costume? What's the best place to start? -
Depends on whether you're making it yourself or not.
Some methods might be to make it from scratch, commission someone else to do it or rather just buy the costume online or at a convention.
if you're going to make it yourself, the most cost effective way is to scour a thrift/second-hand store first to see if they have anything close to the items you need (sometimes you'll find EXACTLY what you're looking for if you try hard enough)This can cut down time making the costume and it's cheaper this way sometimes. try to find as many parts of your costume there first (some can be altered if you find things close enough to the original) and then the parts you can't find can probably be made or found on the internet.
Also, you gon' need at the very least basic sewing knowledge and access to a sewing machine. Try to get someone to help you if you don't know how to sew, it's better than losing a finger to the machine. >.>' I find that Cosplay.com is also a very helpful resource. I suggest heading over to their forums and look around. They have links to pretty much everything you need. (I found cheap places to get fabric on there along with binding techniques for crossplay. Literally has everything a cosplayer needs and is VERY HELPFUL!)
Also, the best place to start is to plan everything out: What parts can you easily get at normal places (like thrift stores or costume stores and stuff) and what parts might you need the internet and help for?
(also, I have a plethora of good wig places if you need them) -
I looked through Cosplay.com and hory shiet. Thank you, Ting. This actually really helps me now, to plan out what I'll need to get. MANY THANK.
