  1. I grabbed my last pair of jeans from the box and placed it in the bureau. "Acacia, are you done unpacking?" My mother yelled from the kitchen. "Sure," I groaned. Have you ever felt like you did something wrong, but you don't even know what you did? Well that's how I felt right about then. What had I done so horribly that gave my mother the desire to move here? The only choice I had at that time was to accept the fact that I'm just a horrible person.
  2. I sighed and stood up from the bed. I walked into the kitchen and suddenly I found myself digging out cups from the boxes and putting them into the cabinet. "Remind me again why we moved here," I said. "To start a new life, Acacia," my mother replied. "Whatever," I moaned. Life has been tough since we took the eleven hour drive from our hometown in Memphis, Tennessee to here in hell Charleston, South Carolina. "Are you wearing perfume?" My mom asked me. "No," "Oh. It smells like your grandmother's perfume," "...."
  3. "Clean the windows," My mother said, tossing me the bottle of window cleaner and a sponge. I groaned. I moved the curtain out of the way, pulled the shades up, and sprayed the window cleaner on the window. Just as I was about to wipe, I saw a little girl, I'd say about 6 or 7, standing in the middle of the road. I dropped my sponge and ran outside into the street.
  4. I stood on the front porch of our new house, I saw a car coming from behind her. "Hey! Hey get out of the road!" I yelled. She must hadn't heard me. "Hey, you! There's a car coming, get out of the road!" She didn't seem to move, she was just standing there like a statue. She must be deaf... I thought to myself. I decided to run out to the road, what else was I going to do? Stand there and witness the death of an innocent child?
  5. I ran to where she stood and pushed her into the grass beside the road, I fell next to her. I got up and helped her stand, I stared at her, "You ok?" I asked. "You didn't have to do that," She mumbled. "What-you wanted to die?" "Acacia, come here!" My mom yelled, standing at the front door. I looked back at her, "Hold on!" I turned my head back. She wasn't there. I looked around, but I couldn't see her. "Hey!" I turned in circles. It's like she had...disappeared...
  6. "Acacia!" I paced back to the house. "Where'd she go?" I asked my mom. "Where'd who go?" "The little girl, where is she?" "Acacia, there is no little girl." "Yes there is! I-I just saved her life!" "Stop talking nonsense," I stormed past her and into my bedroom.
  7. What was I thinking, you might ask? I was thinking I saved an adorable little girl's life! Yet my mind is a bit twisted -- Why didn't she want me to push her out of the road? "Acacia, come finish the window!" My mother yelled. I headed into the kitchen, "Where's dad?" I asked. "He texted me five minutes ago, he's stuck in traffic." "Oh." I walked to the window and re-sprayed the window substance and scrubbed.
  8. About a half an hour later, my father had pulled up in the driveway with the other truck full of more furniture and such. I helped him bring in everything, too. Later that night, I creeped into bed and as strange as it sounds, I found myself dreaming of purple dancing mushrooms.
  9. I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, when I noticed the livingroom's overhead light on. I walked in there but when I saw my mom and dad whispering, I backed up and hid behind the wall. "...I think she's going crazy, Stephen," My mom whispered. "Why?" My dad whispered back. "Well, earlier she was cleaning the window and then she just dropped everything and ran outside. She ran into the street and then she jumped and rolled in the grass..." "Maybe she wants to be a ninja!" "Stephen!" "Sorry, sorry. Is that it?" "No...She-She was facing the other way, but I saw her mouth moving like she was talking to someone." "Was she?" "No, no one was there. And when she came back to the house, she said it was there. She asked me where the little girl went. But here's the thing Stephen, there was no little girl..."
  10. "Maybe she's missing Bethany. I mean, she loved and cared about Bethany, that was her sister for crying out loud! She probably got paranoid and wanted to go back and push Bethany out of the street to save her from that car. She always kept saying it was her fault Bethany died, she wanted to save her. Do you understand what I'm saying?" "Yes, I'm most definitely on the same page with you." I wasn't even thinking about Bethany, this little girl didn't even look like her! But now that my dad has mentioned her, I miss her even more. I walked back to my bed and covered myself with the sheets. I thought about what he had said though. Maybe I was paranoid. Maybe I did want to save Bethany.
