A Hogwarts love story: The Chamber of Secrets(part 7)

Quiz Image

This is part 7 of The Chamber of Secrets, or another name for it could be "We found the Chamber of Secrets!" Anyway just for a heads up, Neville is only in the first question and then the rest is either in Harry's, Ron's or in a third person P.O.V

Ok so now they've found the Chamber, know what's inside it and once again Harry defeats death-i think it's about time to have that mandrake draught ready! Next part will be back in your P.O.V (and of course other characters in seeing you for the first time in ages) Oh! And it's the end of Year! From now on your life is going to get complicated!

  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  1. *Neville's P.O.V* After we got back into the common room I ran straight back upstairs to bed. I made a promise to myself too; I will never EVER follow Harry and Ron ANYWHERE or let someone persuade me into doing anything I'm not sure about. I woke up the next morning and decided to go down to the Greenhouses to get some flowers to replace the snowdrops by ____'s bed. I didn't look specifically this time, the mandrakes were almost ready, and in a couple of hours everyone will be cured. I picked the nicest bunch of flowers that I could find, on the way out of the greenhouse I bumped into Harry and Ron. They looked at me strangely, "Who are those flowers for Neville?" Harry asked simply. "Oh, umm....Wood asked me to put flowers by _____'s bed. So....I got these." I nervously replied; don't know why I was nervous though, I did tell the truth, well..sort of the truth. "Oh...ok..." Ron said rather sadly, "Are there any more flowers for her..." "mione." Harry quickly added. I smiled happy to help, "There should be some in there, if not the other greenhouses. If you can't find any I'll be happy to get you some flowers to put by Hermione's bed." I walked away with a parting smile at Ron, who looked rather confused about what just happened, and Harry who almost looked slightly relieved. I went to the hospital and replaced the old, withered snowdrops with the new, fresh ones that I had picked a couple of moments ago. When I was leaving the hospital I bumped into Harry and Ron again. Harry was holding some flowers in his hand next to a sulky looking Ron. "I see you found some flowers for Hermione then." I said as I walked past them, going to start whatever activities I was going to do today.
  2. *Ron's P.O.V* "I can't believe that you told Neville that we were looking to get some flowers for Hermione. Now he's going to think that we fancy her!" I said pulling a face to show I was annoyed with Harry. "Look I like ____ as much as you do, but Hermione hasn't gotten any flowers. Don't you feel bad for her?" Harry reasoned. "I guess you're right." I huffed. I didn't like the fact that we both fancied the same person, it could ruin our friendship. If I know us as well as I think I do, then there are going to probably be some arguments in the future-I don't need to do divination to know that. Harry walked over and put the flowers in the vase on Hermione's bedside; I walked over to ____ and sat on the side of her bed looking at her unmoving face. "I wish you were here ____, I've really missed you. I think Harry has too, probably Wood as well. I'd hate to say it but I really think he likes you, he even left his broom here-hasn't been flying in ages. But don't worry, I think Harry and I are close, you'll be able to help soon too-the mandrakes will be ready in a couple of hours." I whispered very quietly to her, I don't think even Harry heard even though he is the only other person in the hospital. "Ron, Ron, come here. Look." Harry said urgently holding something in his hand. I walked quickly over to him, "What's that?" I asked him as I looked at the piece of paper in his hand. "This is why Hermione was in the library the day she was attacked. Come on!" Harry whispered excitedly. He quickly walked out of the hospital with me trying to follow close behind him as he stared at the paper with wonder. "Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land none is more deadly that the Basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years, death awaits for anyone who meets this giant serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it..." Harry said and as I listened it slowly started to make a bit of sense.
  3. *Harry's P.O.V* "Ron this is it! The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a Basilisk, that's why I can hear it speak. It's a snake." I explained to Ron. "But, if it kills, by looking people in the eye-how comes no one's dead?" Ron asked. I hate to admit it but Ron did have a point. Why is it that no one's died yet...? I looked away from Ron, and let my eyes wander to my reflection in the glass of the cupboard in front of me. That's when it hit me. This was it. This was the reason no one has died. "Because no one did look it in the eye. Not directly at least. Colin saw it through his camera. Justin...Justin must have seen the Basilisk through nearly headless Nick; Nick got the full blast of it but he's a ghost he couldn't die again. ______......______ was found by the trophy cupboard, she must have seen the reflection in the glass. And Hermione...she had the mirror! I bet you anything she was using it to look round corners in case it came along!" "And Mrs Norris? I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror Harry." Great. Another question to stump me out by Ron. But this time I thought of the answer quicker. "The water. There was water on the floor that night. She only saw the Basilisks reflection." "But how's the Basilisk been getting around? It's a dirty great snake, someone would have seen it." "Hermione's answered that too." I said as I showed him the corner of the page that had the word "pipes" written on it. "Pipes?! It's using the plumbing!" "Remember what Aragog said? About that girl 50 years ago. She died in a bathroom. What if she never left...?" "Moaning Myrtle." I nodded as Ron understood what I was getting at. "All students are to return to their dormitories at once. All teachers to the second floor corridor immediately." Professor McGonagall's voice was projected across the castle. Ron and I looked at each other before running to the second corridor. We hid behind the corner and listened to the professors.
  4. *Ron's P.O.V* "As you can see the heir of Slytherin has left another message. Our worst fear has been realised, a student has been taken by the monster into the Chamber itself. The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts." McGonagall said rather scared. Soon a familiar voice returned. That idiot Lockhart had arrived, "So sorry, dozed off. What have I missed?" He said in a rather cheery tone. "A girl has been snatched by the monster Lockhart, your moment has come at last." Snape stated rather happily. "M-my m-moment...?" "Weren't you saying just last night that you've known all along where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is?" "That's settled then. We'll leave you to deal with the monster Gilderoy. Your skills, after all, are legend." McGonagall said as happy as Snape was, if not, even more. "Ah, very well. I'll just be in my office, getting ummm....getting ready." Lockhart said and walked away. "Who is it that the monster has taken Minerva?" I heard Madam Pomfrey ask. After a short pause McGonagall said the name, but I refused to believe it. Why do all the bad things happened to the people I love?! "Ginny Weasley." McGonagall had whispered. After all the professors walked away from the scene we got the full view of what had been written on the wall this time, "Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever" "Ginny." I gasped. We ran as fast as we could to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and up the stairs into Professor Lockhart's office. "Lockhart may be useless but he's going to try get into the Chamber. At least tell him what we know." We got into his office to see him hastily stuffing his things into suitcases. "Professor! We have some information for you! Are you going somewhere?" Harry said. "Ah, well, yes, umm....Urgent call, unavoidable, got to go." Lockhart said quickly. "What about my sister?!" I complained. "Ummm....well, as to that-most unfortunate, no one regrets more than I." "You're the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher! You can't go now!" "Well I must say, when I took the job there was nothing in the job description about- "You're running away?! After all that stuff you did in your books?!" Harry argued.
  5. *Harry's P.O.V* "Books can be misleading." Lockhart said. "You wrote them." I replied. "My dear boy, do use common sense! My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things." Lockhart explained. My eyes widened at his reply, he basically just admitted to two second years that he lied in every single one of his books. "You're a fraud. You've just been taking credit for what other wizards have done!" "Is there anything you CAN do?" Ron sneered. "Yes, now you mention it. I'm rather gifted with memory charms, otherwise you see all those wizards would have gone blabbing and I'd have never sold another book. In fact ...err....err....I'm going to have to do the same to you." But before he even finished the sentence Ron and I already had our wands drawn and pointed at him, Ron's was still broken but Lockhart didn't know that. "Don't even think about it." I said and gestured to lower his wand which I picked up. "Come on..." I said gestured for Lockhart to go in front of us, "We're going to pay Moaning Myrtle a visit." When we reached the girls bathroom I could hear her wailing but when she saw us, in particular me, she stopped and asked us what we wanted. "To ask you...how you died." I replied. "Oh! It was dreadful...it happened right here in this very cubicle. I had hidden because Olive Hornby was teasing me about my glasses. I was crying, and then I heard somebody come in." Myrtle said calmly. "Who was it Myrtle?" "I don't know. I was distraught! But they said something funny, a kind of made up language..." Myrtle continued as she floated towards us, "Then I realised that it was a boy speaking so I unlocked the door to tell him to 'GO AWAY!' and I died." "Just like that? But how?" "I just remember seeing a pair of great big yellow eyes, over there, by that sink." I walked towards the sink, feeling it to see if there might have been a hidden latch or something to indicate that it was the entrance to the Chamber. I then tried to turn the tap on at the particular sink where Myrtle died. No water came out. Then I saw it. On the side of the tap was a snake engraved onto it. "The little details that people over looked." I thought to myself and silently chuckled a bit. "This is it. This is it Ron. I think this is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets."
  6. *Ron's P.O.V* "Say something. Harry say something in Parseltongue." I encouraged. Harry took my advice and hissed something. Nothing happened at first and then there was a rumbling noise as the top of the sink rose up into the air, every sink individually moved forward-separating from each other; then the sink where Myrtle saw the Basilisk's eyes moved underground leaving an entrance to a long tunnel leading, most probably, to the Chamber. "Excellent Harry, ha good work. Well I'll just be....err...there is no need for me to stay." Lockhart said as he tried to escape but me and Harry quickly stopped him and pushed him back so that he was at the edge of the tunnel. "Oh yes there is! You first." Harry said as we our wands and stepped closer to Lockhart who was close to falling down the tunnel. "Now boys what good would that do?" Lockhart said in a low voice. "Better you than us." I snapped back. He turned round so that he was now facing the tunnel, he looked over his shoulder trying to get his way out of the situation again, so I pushed him with the tip of my wand which was enough to send him down the tunnel. Me and Harry then walked to the edge where Lockhart was standing, "It's really quite filthy down here" his voice called up. "Together." Harry said. "Oh Harry, if you die down there your welcome to share my toilet." Myrtle said. I gave her a repulsed look before jumping down the tunnel after Harry. I was screaming down the long, dark winding tunnel but we soon fell out at the end and we quickly stood up pointing our wands back at Lockhart. "Eww." I said looking down at the floor which was covered in little carcasses. "Remember any sign of movement; close your eyes straight away." Harry warned. "Go on." I said sharply to Lockhart who hurried after Harry with me at the end. "What's this?" I asked as i started at something long and thick stretched out across the tunnel. "It looks like a...a snake." Lockhart said standing next to me. "It's a snake skin..." Harry said amazed as he examined it closer. "Bloody hell. Whoever shed this must be at least 60 feet long. Or more!" Suddenly Lockhart dropped to the ground beside me. He fainted. "Heart of a lion this one." I sarcastically said to Harry.
  7. *Harry's P.O.V* Lockhart quickly and unexpectedly jumped up from the ground prying Ron's broken wand from his hand, still not knowing that Ron's wand was, at the moment, as useless as Malfoy trying to be nice to people. He looked rather victorious about his accomplishment, "The adventure ends here boys. But don't fret, the world will know our story; how I was too late to save the girl, how you two tragically lost your minds at the sight of her mangled body. So, you first Mr Potter. Say goodbye to your memories. Obliviate!" Lockhart was flung backwards into the wall hitting it with a lot of force. Above us the ceiling started to rumble and large rocks came tumbling down. I dived backwards away from Ron and the professor, Ron stepped backwards too as rocks threatened to hit us. It had become all dusty and it was hard to see but the dust was clearing quickly. "Harry?!" I heard Ron call, "Harry?!" I got up from the floor and ran to where his voice was coming from. There was a large pile of rocks separating us from each other. "Ron!" I called through a small gap, "Ron, are you OK?!" "I'm fine." He responded. Then there was a loud groan and once again I heard Lockhart's familiar voice, "Hello. Who are you?" "Umm....Ron Weasley..." Ron said unsure. "Really?! And, err.....Wh-who am I?" "Lockhart's memory charm backfired! He hasn't got a clue who he is!" Ron shouted to me. "It's an odd sort of place this, isn't it? Do you live here?" I watched as Lockhart picked up a rock and started playing with it. "No..." Ron said and took the rock off him before whacking Lockhart around the head with it, knocking him out. "What do I do now?!" Ron said to me, starting to panic. "You wait here and try and shift some of this rock so we can get back through. I'll go on and find Ginny." I said to him and left.
  8. *No one in particular's P.O.V* Harry took out his wand as he walked further into the Chamber. He had only taken a couple of steps before he came across something. On the wall was something that looked like a door to a vault, with 7 bronze snakes place at different parts. Harry looked at it for a moment and then said something in Parseltongue. The 7 snake's in the centre of the door moved backwards as an eighth one went round the edge. With his wand still out and pointed in front of him, he cautiously walked through the door that had just opened for him. Harry soon found himself standing at the end of a long black tiled path, either side of him were 6 giant snake heads and right at the end of the path was a huge sculpture of a man's head whose beard was so long it touched the floor and his hair was set out in waves across the wall. Calmly Harry walked forward, looking at each of the snake's heads, but then a body at the end of the path caught his eye. "Ginny." He whispered and ran straight for her. When he reached her he threw his wand down and crouched on the floor next to her, "Ginny, Ginny please don't be dead! Wake up! Wake up! Please wake up!" Harry said to Ginny's lifeless body, he was too focused on her that he didn't notice a young man step out of the shadows. "She won't wake." The young man said to Harry and started to walk towards him. "Tom? Tom Riddle? What do you mean she won't wake? She's not....." Harry said confused. Harry had seen Tom in a memory that a diary showed him one night in the Gryffindor common room and in the trophy cupboard Tom had an award for "˜Special services to the school' that he received 50 years ago. So why was Harry seeing him now, looking as young as he did 50 years ago? "She's still alive, but only just." Tom said still walking towards Harry. "Are you a ghost?" Harry asked unable to stop the questions plaguing his mind. "A memory preserved in a diary for 50 years."
  9. Harry touched Ginny's pale hand. "She's as cold as ice. Ginny please don't be dead. Please wake up..." Harry said but once again he failed to notice Tom Riddle, who had just picked Harry's wand up from the floor, "You've got to help me Tom-there's a Basilisk." Harry said urgently. "It won't come until it's called." Tom said simply. Harry stood up slowly from the floor and outstretched his hand to Tom as he saw him holding his wand. "Give me my wand Tom." "You won't be needing it." "Listen we've got to go, we've got to save her!" "I'm afraid I can't do that, you see, as poor Ginny grows weaker, I grow stronger..." Harry gave a puzzled look at Tom's statement, "Yes Harry, it was Ginny Weasley who opened the Chamber of Secrets." "No. She couldn't. She wouldn't." "It was Ginny who set the Basilisk on the mudbloods and Filch's cat. Ginny who wrote the threatening messages on the walls." "Why?" "Because I told her to. You'll find I can be very...persuasive. Not that she knew what she was doing, she was, shall we say, in a kind of trance. Still the power of the diary began to scare her and she tried to dispose of it in the girls' bathroom and then, who should find it, but you." Tom explained to Harry while circling him. His voice had lost its calm demeanour and now his voice matched his face which was growing a scowl. "The very person I was most anxious to meet." "But why did you want to meet me?" Harry said stepping forward towards Tom. "I knew I had to talk to you-meet you if I could. So I decided to show you my capture of that brainless oaf Hagrid to gain your trust." "Hagrid's my friend! And you framed him didn't you..." "It was my word against Hagrid's. Only Dumbledore seemed to think he was innocent." "I bet Dumbledore saw right through you." Harry said smiling. "He certainly kept an annoyingly close watch on me after that. I knew it wouldn't be safe to open the Chamber again while I was still at school so I decided to leave behind a diary preserving my 16 year old self in it so that one day I would be able to lead another to finish Salazar Slytherin's noble work!"
  10. "Well you haven't finished it this time; in a few hours the mandrake draught will be ready and everyone who was Petrified will be alright again." Harry sneered, but Tom just shook his head mockingly. "Haven't I told you? Killing mudbloods doesn't matter to me anymore; for many months now my new target...has been you. How is it that a baby with no extraordinary magical talent was able to defeat the greatest wizard of all time?! How did you escape with only a scar while Lord Voldemort's powers were destroyed?!" "Why do you care how I escaped?! Voldemort was after your time." "Voldemort is my past, present and future." Tom said with a cruel smile upon his lips. He turned around, back facing Harry, and using Harry's wand he cast flagrate; before the both of them Tom started to write in the air, "˜Tom Marvolo Riddle'. Harry watched in amazement as Tom waved his hand and the letters rearranged themselves to which now spelt "˜I am Lord Voldemort' and after a couple of seconds, vanished. "You. You're the heir of Slytherin. You're Voldemort...." "Surely you didn't think that I was going to keep my filthy muggle fathers name?! No...I fashioned myself a new name; a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak when I became the greatest sorcerer in the world!" "Albus Dumbledore is the greatest sorcerer in the world!" "Dumbledore has been driven out of this castle by the mere memory of me!" "He'll never be gone! Not as long as those who remain are loyal to him!" Harry and Tom stared angrily at each other when suddenly a high pitched chirp echoed throughout the Chamber. They both looked in the direction of the noise and Harry immediately recognised the bird as Dumbledore's Phoenix, Fawkes. The Phoenix dropped the Sorting Hat in Harry's hands before flying back out of the Chamber. Harry hastily examined the hat to see whether there was anything that could help him that was held inside it, there was nothing. Just the empty Sorting Hat. "So this is what Dumbledore sends his great defender, a songbird and an old hat." Tom moved forward to the sculpture of the head and started to speak Parseltongue, there was loud rumbling as the mouth to the sculpture started to open. "Let's match the power of Lord Voldemort, heir of Salazar Slytherin, against the famous Harry Potter!"
  11. Two big yellow eyes emerged from the sculptures head which was soon followed by the long black body of the Basilisk. Harry had only seen the top of its head before he turned around and ran back down the tiled pathway. "Parseltongue won't save you now Potter! It only obeys me!" Riddle called after him. The Basilisk quickly advanced after Harry, after a couple of seconds it was right behind him. Harry didn't look back; he knew the eyes could kill. He ran faster and faster hoping to get away from the giant serpent but he tripped and fell on the ground. The Basilisk loomed over him, Harry protectively put his hands on his head, but Fawkes' chirp sounded once again and the bird went straight to the Basilisk's head, attacking it. Harry watched the shadows on the wall of what was happening behind him. Fawkes was gouging out the Basilisk's eyes. "NO! Your bird may have blinded the Basilisk but it can still hear you!" Riddle's angry voice echoed. Harry stood up facing the monster; he knew it was safe now to look at it since its eyes had been taken out. It couldn't see Harry anymore and it was swinging its head in pain, which was until, Harry stepped backwards. It had heard Harry move and before it had time to lunge straight at him he ran down another path going into some large tunnels, but the Basilisk still followed him, lunging every so often. He ran down the tunnel and turned another corner to find....it was a dead end. He had tried to quickly get back out but he had stopped when he heard, and soon, saw the monster. It had stuck its head in the tunnel trying to sense its prey; Harry had flattened himself against the wall that was blocking him from going anywhere. He was sure the Basilisk knew he was there; it had opened its jaws showing its many long teeth shaped like daggers, and was edging ever closer. Probably out of pure luck Harry had found a small rock right beside him which he picked up as slowly and quietly as he could and tossed it away from where he was standing, to another part of the tunnel. It heard the noise and came out of the tunnel continuing forward towards where the noise was, thinking that it's where Harry was.
  12. After it had left Harry came out of the tunnels and found himself back to where Ginny and Tom was. "Yes Potter, the process is nearly complete. In a few minutes Ginny Weasley will be dead and I will cease to be a memory. Lord Voldemort will return. Very. Much. Alive!" Tom said menacingly. Harry had crouched down next to Ginny and was about to say something when suddenly the Basilisk reappeared, Harry turned his head and saw, inside the Sorting Hat, a sword magically appear. Quickly Harry got up and pulled the sword out of the Hat, then ran to the head sculpture and climbed up it, high enough that he was face-to-face with the monster. He swung the sword aimlessly at the Basilisk hoping to get a lucky hit, but using its large head the Basilisk knocked Harry over and the sword slipped out of his hand. Harry quickly scrambled back on to his feet again hoping to reach the sword as it was slipping off the sculpture and before the Basilisk lunges for him again. In the nick of time he grabbed the sword just as the Basilisk was about to finish him off, and drove the sword through the roof of its mouth. Quickly he pulled the sword out of the Basilisk but as he did Harry felt a very shaping pain in his arm. He looked down to see that one of the Basilisks many fangs had gotten stuck in his arm, swiftly he pulled it out and watched(as well as he could because he felt his legs slowly giving away underneath him) as the Basilisk hit the floor, dead. Tom Riddle's face was contorted with anger as he watched Harry slowly walking back to Ginny's body in pain, Basilisk fang in one hand and the sword in the other. Only a few steps away from Ginny Harry collapsed. "Remarkable isn't it? How quickly the venom of the Basilisk penetrates the body. I guess you have little more than a minute to live. You'll be with your dear mudblood mother soon Harry..."
  13. Harry reached over to Ginny's hand and held it while Tom spoke. "Funny the damage a silly little book can do. Especially in the hands of a silly. Little. Girl." Harry's hand lingered on Ginny's for a couple of seconds before he pulled Tom's diary out of her hands and opened it to a random page in front of him. Tom watched him curiously, not knowing what Harry was about to do. Harry picked up the fang and looked at Tom's horrified face as he told him to stop, before stabbing the book with it. Ink spurted from the diary as Harry plunged the fang further and further into the diary, Tom was angrily yelling, writhing and twisting in pain and then...he was gone. Ginny awoke with a start, looking around wildly and panting; Tom Riddles diary lay in a pool of ink and Harry was practically fighting to stay awake. "Ginny." "Harry. It was me, but I swear, I didn't mean to, Riddle made me and....Harry! You're hurt!" "Don't worry. Ginny you need to get yourself out, follow the Chamber and you'll find Ron...." Before Harry finished they heard Fawkes' chirp once again in the Chamber, graciously he swooped down and landed next to Harry. "You were brilliant Fawkes, I just wasn't quick enough." Harry whispered to the Phoenix. Slowly the bird lowered its head over Harry's wound and tears fell from its eyes on to it. Ginny widened her eyes in amazement as Harry's wound slowly disappeared, "Of course! Phoenix tears have healing powers...Thanks. It's alright Ginny, it's over, it's just a memory." Harry slowly got up, the feeling had returned to his legs, and walked back down the Chamber to find Ron (and Lockhart) with Ginny, and of course Fawkes who was flying ahead of them. During the time Harry was with Tom and the Basilisk, Ron had managed to shift a reasonable amount of rocks so that they were able o get through. Ron was very happy to see his sister standing before him looking well and gave her a big hug before Fawkes grabbed the collar of Lockhart's cloak with his talons. As the Phoenix started to fly away Ron grabbed Lockhart's ankle with one hand and with the other held onto Harry who was in turn holding onto Ginny.
