I have been on this site for a long time, and I have finally gotten up the courage to make an account and write something! Since this is my first series, I am so open to advice and feedback. So please leave comments, I'm sure I'll love them!

Yes this is going to be one of those love stories... but I really hope this one is unique. I can't wait to think what you think of it, and just remember, this is just the first! It will get better and more interesting as it goes... at least that's the plan!

  1. Year 3120. Earth has seen plague, slavery, war, and even alien encounter. Governments have risen and fallen, and the human race has miraculously adapted to it all. 14 years has passed since the first biological weapons have been used in war, and hopefully the last. Man was reduced to a mere three million, and 1 out of every 5 is a woman. Three viruses were particularly successful, two of which targeted large levels of estrogen. Women.
  2. Me? I'm a woman. Technically too, since I turned 18 a month ago. This is literally a man's world, but I refuse to let that faze me. I am a master at martial arts such as capoeira, bokator, silambam, judo, jujitsu, and karate. I am a master of knife throwing as well, always keeping at least five knives hidden on my body. However, my greatest skill lies in archery. No one is my better, or even equal (at least that I have met/heard of). I have cat like senses and nothing can passes me. To cross me is a fatal mistake, and all those in my colony know it.
  3. Because of my deadly skillset, I have been given the title of ranger. A dangerous job that lays outside the safety of the colony walls. My jobs are a variety of solo missions that need to be carried out. Sometimes clean and quiet, but sometimes loud and bloody. Whatever needs to get done, I get done. My skillset is required merely on the base of survival. Outside of the colony lies a breeding ground for crime and bandits. Often times a group of soldiers are killed when gone too long. This is where I come in.
  4. The sun's rays began to shine above the horizon, warm and bright. There are nights when I cannot sleep, so I stay up for the sunrise. It gives my unsettled mind a moment to breathe and relax. I stood and jumped from my makeshift roof of wood and mud onto my front doorstep. My house stood against the west wall, out of the way of the main city. I don't like most people. I entered my front door, I never locked up. Everyone here knows that I am not to be crossed, and even so, those that are thwarted by a simple lock are no concern for me. The place was humble, but cozy. A nice place to recuperate after a particularly tricky mission.
  5. I made myself a cup of coffee and a breakfast of fruits. When I can, I try to remain vegetarian. But I can't always when working; we live in a desert after all. Our colony lies in a valley in what used to be Arizona of the U.S., and I know it better than anyone. I dressed in my usual clothes for the desert, the summons I received yesterday sounded like a new mission. My clothes were short brown leather shorts and a brown leather top. My clothes are small, I know that, but when I need to escape the heat, the little clothing is a relief. I however need camouflage, so I wear a robe that matches the desert. When I don't want to be seen, I wear a hood and mask, melting into the desert sands. And during the chilly summer nights, the extra warmth is always crucial.
  6. I strapped on five throwing knives, a dagger, and my favorite bowie knife (I made it myself, so it is elegantly engraved and fitted to my hand perfectly). Finally, I took in hand my weapon of choice, my bow. I don't trust anyone else to create a perfect bow, so I labored myself to carve it into sublime balance. The bow is large and such a rich and deep brown with a hint of red, and the bow string is strong and taut. Over the period of time I've had it, I have carved in nine ancient Native American totem signs. I had met an expert at one time and he helped me find mine. I've grown fond of them, even though I may not believe in their actual existence. They are; owl, which stands for deception, wild boar, which stands for confrontation, swan, which stands for grace, dragonfly, which stands for illusion, dolphin, which stands for manna, hummingbird, which stands for joy, mouse, which stands for scrutiny, horse, which stands for power, and finally dog, which stands for loyalty.
  7. Now that I was fully prepared, I sat and ate my fruit while the sun rose. When it reached the right height, I put away my dishes and headed for the city's center. Who needs a watch? I sure don't. I walked forward and winded through the back streets as long as possible. When I met the main streets, the sudden bustle of civilians over took me. I drew up my hood and mask. Those who recognized me made way out of respect, to which I nodded to out of thanks. Everyone else however treated me just like any other, not giving me any space at all. Finally at the square, I caught some air, and I grew tired of the shoving. I took off my hood and mask, and instantly I was given a path to walk. My long blonde hair, light green eyes, and strong featured face aren't hard to miss, and almost everyone here knows it.
  8. To be honest, since I've made my home here, I've only been given four missions. All were successful, but it was the last one that has made me famous. There was a bandit camp nearby with numbers great enough to overrun our soldiers and cause some major damage, if not more. I was sent to gather information and dispatch any that I could. Instead, I killed them all, and none of them saw it coming. I became the number one "˜go to' ranger after that. The colony benefitted too, they got all of the supplies.
  9. The Captain runs the colony from the center of the square, in a large building that can see everything. I like him a lot; he's a kind and wise old man. He's who convinced me to settle here after roaming most of my life. He is the only Captain I know of who considers not only his soldiers, but civilians too. Therefore, we thrive.
  10. I walked up the steps, laughing to myself as some men stopped to stare when my tan legs peeked through my robe. These poor men have no pool of women to really look at, so when a young and fit woman like myself wears the clothing I do, it will be noticed. As I made my way to Captain Warner, soldiers parted and let me through without constantly checking my clearance. This was a nice perk of my newfound reputation. I however would surprise one here and there because of my silent movement. I never used shoes because they are too loud.
  11. I eventually found the Captain's main office room and entered. Perfectly on time. I was stopped by his body guard, Elena, to search me for weapons. I growled at her, we don't get along. Captain Warner chuckled, "Play nice kitties." I looked to him with a complaining look. He sighed, "Alright Elena, we've been through this before. There is no need to confiscate her weapons. Not only could she kill us both without them, but she already would have killed me if she wanted to." Elena mumbled something and returned to her post at his side. At seven foot, she towered above us both, her dark skin and shaved head only made her all the more menacing, and her black eyes never missed a thing. She sure was dangerous, and to be honest, I'm glad she is too loyal to come after me. She would be so incredibly hard to defeat.
  12. My attention turned to the old man, and my feelings turned from cold to warm. He was generous and always held a healthy sense of humor. He was a small man with swept back grey hair, and brown eyes brighter than the sun. His skin was leathery, and his face riddled with laugh lines. I absolutely loved it, he was familiar. The only time I could let down my guard and relax is when in his presence.
  13. I sat in the seat across from him and smiled at him. Something I do not do often. He smiled, "It is nice to see such a pretty face smile. Thank you for coming on such short notice ________, we have an emergency on our hands." "I'm listening." "A year ago, some kids got into trouble for theft and assault. Instead of facing their punishment, they ran and became one of our bigger problems outside the city. Their gang has now endangered the well-being of us all. They completely ravaged the only farm that supplied an ingredient crucial to the only medicine that wards of one of the three major viruses. Without that, we will all die." "How do I fit in?" "We need you to find soil that will grow the ingredient. It is hard to find in this desert, but we think we have an idea of where it can be. But the location is extremely dangerous, and we don't want to lose soldiers fighting for it if it isn't there. We need you to go in and confirm our suspicions." "Where is this?" "To the north, in the neutral zone. We do not want to anger other colonies, but we are in dire need of this soil. We plan to dig it up and plant it closer." "I'll do it." "Good. I'll have you talk to those you need to in order to complete your task. But I must warn you, once in the neutral zone, kill no one, and kill no animal. The risk is too great, we do not want war on our hands." "Understood."
  14. I was given two names, Alfred and Vincent. These were the two men I needed to see before I headed out, which I would do today. One is a navigator and the other a geologist. Alfred gave me the location of where I needed to go, and Vincent provided me with a soil sample of what I was looking for. Now that I had what I needed, I was off. The day was still young and I can cover some serious mileage. This should be done with only one night in the field. Yet, I really should knock on wood.
