The Hunger Games series take place in a future world, where a nation by the name of Panem has been built in the North America. There were once thirteen districts and the Capitol, which controls all the districts, but the districts started an uprising. In the uprising, many are killed and the thirteenth district is wiped out by the Capitol as a warning to the other districts. In addition to wiping out the thirteenth district, the twelve remaining districts are now required to choose one male and one female between the ages of twelve and eighteen at random in a reaping. After the reaping, the twenty-four children are sent to the Capitol where they battle to the death in an arena. There is one victor. The victor brings pride- and more importantly, food- to their district.
The story begins during the seventy-fourth year of the Hunger Games, where sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen of District Twelve volunteers for the Hunger Games after her younger sister was chosen in the reaping. -
