"But where will you go?" he asked, concern pulling the corners of his mouth down into a slight frown. He didn't want the horrid monsters to get to this poor little guy. It wasn't fair; he should at least have a place to stay.

"Wherever I can go. I really wanna go home, but I don't know how to get back, and it won't be long before the Overlord figures out how to get here and takes over this town too." Ryou shivered and whined. He didn't want anymore death and destruction due to his being around.

"You can stay here for as long as you need to. I'm not going to turn you away and make you keep on running. We can hide you here and I can make sure that the Overlord won't find you." He looked down at the neko and held out his hand. "My name's Zane, by the way."

"Ryou." He cautiously took the hand held out to him and smiled. "Can I go into the big house? It's too crowded in here. And really cold..."

"Yes, my father should be gone now. I can set you up with a room. Come on." He led Ryou across the yard and into the heated building.

"Thank you. So much." The blonde hurried inside with the other and inspected the new space. "Whoa. Nice place. Homey."

"Don't mention it," he replied, smiling warmly. "Yeah, this is home. I'll show you your room. It's not the best, but it's dry and warm and furnished." He led the blonde up the stairs to the doorway of the guest room.

He continued to look around, interested by the patterns and furniture. He had similar things back home, but they were always different in some way. He took in the new smells too, the scent of parents filling his nose. "Do you have any brother or sisters?"

"Nope, it's just my parents and me. Do you?" He was genuinely curious to hear about Ryou's life at his home. He seemed to be recognizing a lot of things. Could his home potentially be a sort of parallel universe?

"Four. I'm from a litter of five. Three are females, the other another male. I think he was murdered though and my sisters captured...I'm not sure what all's happened...My mother got sick and passed. My father passed of unknown phenomenon about a week ago. And then I started getting chased."

Zane let out a breath. "I'm so sorry about that... It must be incredibly hard." He met the blonde's eyes, his own eyes warm and kind. "We'll do your parents and siblings proud, you and I. We'll show them."

"You can really fight and destroy the darkness?" His eyes lit up with hope that would soon be knocked right back down.

"I can't exactly destroy it... But I think I can keep it away... What is the darkness? Is it a group of people? Your enemies..?" He knew he wasn't all too powerful, but it was his responsibility to take care of Ryou now.

He frowned. "The Overlord and his minions. Everywhere they go, they bring darkness and despair. It's horrible." He sighed softly and examined the guest room for new scents. They were the same.

"Oh. And just how powerful are they?" Zane's spirits were a bit dampened. Here he was, a human boy, trying to ward off dark beings and conceal something that they were after. He'd probably get himself killed in the process.
