Thread Topic: I need help making a big decision
-
I've been given the opportunity to attend a summer program at the Pratt Institute, a college in Brooklyn, because of my writing and my interest in Creative Writing as a major. This is a HUGE opportunity, which would result in four college credits and a completed portfolio.
Only issue?
Yeah, you guessed it. Cash. As always.
So here are my options:
1. Get a job and save up over the next two years. I'll be able to go the summer of my senior year and pay my own way.
Downsides: I'll have already decided on a college and I'll also be saving money for moving out. Plus, I could lose my spot.
Upsides: More time to spice up my writing, grow up a little.
2. Apply for merit scholarships.
Upsides: Less cost.
Downsides: Don't always cover full cost, wouldn't cover plane ticket, very competitive and unlikely that I would get it.
3. Start a GoFundMe page, and apply for scholarships, and get a job
Upsides: Probably could scrape together enough....
Downsides: Probably can't, haha. It's in June, sooooo.
4. Any suggestions you guys have??
Or should I even do this? I'm not going to Pratt, I know that for a fact. Is it just a waste of my time? -

3 sounds busy, but if you're serious, I think that'd be the best way to secure your chances as much as you can.

you could try both 1 and 3

Or 4. Look for similar opportunities closer to home, which is my mom's suggestion.
