"MOVE!" shouted Ana.
Ana and Alice stood watch inside a tavern. The windows and doors had all been nailed shut. And the peasants who had survived the first attack were running through a secret tunnel in the cellar.
The few survivors started to flee. Being led down the tunnels by Benjamin. The two young girls stayed behind and held off the enemy. Swarms of men, women, and children all clad in black armor swarmed around them. Farmers, merchants, teachers. It seemed if they could pick up a sword they had become part of the black legion.
The mobs tore at the boards covering the windows and doors. Desperately trying to claw their ways in. Alice picked up a chair and smashed it across the back of an elderly man who had squeezed through a window. Ana flipped over a table and smashed it against a wall where they were starting to get through a door.
The two girls could hear ripping sounds upstairs as the legionnaires pried their way through the second floor. Foot steps beating across the ceiling as they marched around and worked their ways down stairs. The mobs were upon them. The two girls were surrounded by soldiers clad in armor as black as coal. Twisted blades and jagged shields seemed to surround them at every angle. Just as it seemed all hope was lost, they heard a voice.
"ENOUGH!" it shouted in a deep hiss. "Bring them to me!" It commanded.
The two girls were dragged outside by the army and dropped to their knees before the figure who gave the command.
The General stood before them. His armor was a black as the night. Trimmed in a shimmering gold he stood; leaning on his sword in front of him. Etched into his armor were long, twisted, screaming faces. Every one of them seemed to be different. And as he shifted his weight and moved, the faces seemed to wriggle and writhe.
The blade he held looked ancient. The black steel shown the reflection of the girls as they looked into it. Etched into the blade were the words 'You are the mirror -- Reflect'.
The two girls stood up and immediately drew their swords. He only laughed.
"Hahaha... how cute." He said with a slight smile.
Alice was the first to attack. She jumped up and swung, only to be grabbed by the waist and thrown to the side. The General laughed again as he turned to encompass both the girls in his vision.
Ana was next to attack, giving a quick stab which he had to side step. He planted a knee in her stomach and threw her tumbling into her friend.
Ana stood back up as he swung. His sword met hers but with such force that it sent her flying through the air. She crashed into the tavern with a heavy thud.
Alice slashed and the General stepped back. She placed her hand on his chest plate and fire blasted from her palm. It bathed his armor in a bright red glow as the fire washed over him. The blast knocked him back a step as well. But the spell had tired Alice. And she wasn't quick enough to react as he recovered and smacked her with his hand. Alice collapsed.
"Witch!" The General hissed as he placed one heavy boot on her chest and leveled his sword at her head.
As he lifted his blade high over head to end her life, a bold of light shot through the air.
The black blade shattered above his head and all the fragments floated away into nothingness.
Ana looked up from the ground to see a woman standing in the distance. Her cloak was grey and worn and looked very very old.
The woman called out to the General.
"This has to stop, James." She said as she descended towards them.
"Nobody has called me that in a very long time." Said James as he lifted his foot off Alice and walked towards the woman. "Especially not you, Ting."
"I have been gone, James. You have changed much since I left."
"I promised you the world.. and when I came home to show you, you weren't there. You abandoned me."
Ana and Alice took this opportunity to try and crawl away. James turned and saw them, and with only a few steps he was standing above them. He put his foot on Alice's back and lifted Ana high into the air by her wrist.
Ting grabbed the arm he held Ana by.
"This isn't you, James. Look at what you've become."
He let her go, and when Ana hit the ground, Ting moved her hand. Where she had touched him, his armor had turned to a marble white. He looked at it for a moment.
"Chain this witch down with the other two." He commanded as his armor faded back to black.
"They are not fit to serve me."
He stepped back as his soldiers chained down the three women.
"Put these two in the stocks." He said nodding towards Ana and Alice.
"Take the grey one to my tent. I will speak with her first."
He turned and walked away, rubbing his arm where Ting had touched him. The three were chained, and forced to walk to the black legions camp. -
