And sorry for my lack of description in some paragraphs; I just wanted the cliffhanger to be exactly right because it's pretty...big, if you want to say.

Our "When Will I Die" Quiz?

  1. "We have to get rid of the serum," Auntie Lisa explained to me. I had many questions to ask, but all that could slip out of my mouth was, "What?" She sighed, playing out words in her head to explain. "Sam told me in a note about this serum that they inject into humans to alter their genes and cells. With all the humans, Oath is going to add to his army. We have to get rid of it!" I glanced at the exit. "Alright, where is it?" She shrugged. "How would I know? But here's the letter." She took the note from her back pocket and tucked it in my bet. "I'll help with the prisoners. Go!" I ran towards the exit, putting the note in my pocket. Then I stopped short. Two guards were outside, waiting for me.
  2. I quickly reached for an arrow from my quiver and loaded it in like a pro onto my bow. The two guards stood shoulder by shoulder, and then slowly withdrew their swords. I had a weird feeling that one of them was Bounty. I shot a test arrow, just to see what they would do. The one I shot it at blocked it away with his sword. Of course he did, I thought. It's not like he was going to let me shoot him. I ran across the floor to a pillar. I reloaded an arrow and peered out to my opponents. They were gone. I looked the other way, but saw nothing or nobody that could cause any harm. It was dead quiet—not even the sound of the escapees could be heard. All I could hear was my breathing. And another's behind me. I grabbed an arrow swiftly in one motion from my bow and stabbed the guy in the stomach. He lurched backwards and fell to the floor. This seemed to be my signature move. Maybe I could just toss the bow and just use arrows and knives. Then I remembered there was one more. I released the arrow from the guy's body and stabbed him again just to make sure. I didn't have a good feeling while killing him, but it had to be done.
  3. I reloaded my bow again and just waited, trying to hear anything that could give the other away. I slowly walked around in circles, so that I could be aware of everything around me. Then I heard somebody clapping. I looked up while a figure jumped down. He removed his hood and put on a big grin. "Let me introduce myself before we engage in any of that trying-to-kill-each-other nonsense. My name is Bounty." I was going to tell him to screw himself, but then he interrupted me. "No need to speak, child. I already know who you are. Quite a kill you had there. First one, I presume?" I nodded. Maybe I could catch him by surprise. He started pacing back and forth, his cloak so long it looked as if he were floating. "The first one is always the worst. You see their life flood away right before your eyes, and then the guilt that you were the one that caused it stays with you for a few days. But don't worry. Once you kill more, it will get easier." I didn't have time to even react before he turned around and threw a dagger at me.
  4. It pierced my leg with a sickening sound—like when you drop a pile of Jell-O on the floor. I sunk down to my knees with a shriek of pain as blood started spilling out of my right thigh. "Rule Number One," Bounty said coolly, "always know the powers of your opponent." He walked over to me as I hugged my thigh with all my might, my mind thinking it would just fall off like a lizard's tail would when you cut it off. "Rule Number Two: expect the unexpected." He walked around me in circles, like a flock of birds waiting to devour their meal once they go lifeless. But I wanted him to keep speaking. I wanted him to get me pissed off. The one thing that I've noticed with my experience with this dumb voice is that it reacts to anger. I can't control it, but it works. A wad of spit landed by my arm. "Are you scared yet, little girl?" The pain in my thigh was throbbing so bad it felt like I was going to throw up. "Your plan seems to have backfired, now has it? You're all going to die, one way or another. You know, you would have been dead a long time ago if it weren't for your obsessed boyfriend. But he can't help you here now, can he?" Bounty laughed, a sickening sound reminding me of bones crunching together.
  5. I gritted my teeth. "Say something again." Bounty got face to face with me. Jackpot. "I don't understand why those boys like you so much. From the looks of it, you have nothing good to offer." Alright, I think that triggered it. I did my best to get up, balancing on only one leg. I almost screamed as the dagger sunk deeper into my thigh. I put my hand on the hilt to try to take it out, but the pain was too unbearable. I needed Ash. Bounty laughed again. Suddenly a blanket of darkness and emotions clouded over me. Any sympathy I felt was gone. The only thing I felt was...hatred. I wanted to kill him. 'No more,' the voice said. Suddenly I fell to the ground, my eyes lolling to the back of my head. Then they came rolling back as Bounty approached me hesitantly with his sword. He raised it over me and tried taking a stab, but he hit air, as if a force-field bubbled around me, and was thrown backwards. While he was on the ground trying to get himself over the immediate shock, I loaded an arrow and shot it right at his head. It came scorching through like a kabob, a piece of his brain sloshing off the arrowhead. "Rule Number One," I muttered under my breath. "Always know the power of your opponent." I fell to the ground, the pain of my thigh coming back at me all at once. I looked around and saw James standing by a pillar, watching me, dazed. "Come help me!" I demanded. He shook his head, as if to get an image out of his mind and started sprinting over to my side. His face was as white as a sheet of paper. "Are you okay?" I asked as he and I applied pressure to my wound. He didn't say anything for a minute. "Your eyes. When Bounty was about to stab you, they weer pure black. No whites—just black. Like a demon's."
  6. I got my quiver from my back and looked into it to see my reflection. Nothing looked abnormal except a black line hovering underneath by eyelid. "Find Ash," I said. James nodded, his face getting back its color, and stood up. He was about to leave when Ash and Gumbo appeared around a corner. When they saw me, they came running over with exasperated breaths. "Move your hands," Ash said calmly, as if he's dealt with this thousands of times. I gladly obliged. I looked at my wound clearly for the first time without any distractions and saw how horrifying it was. The knife was all the way in, blood spewing out everywhere. My hands were bloody as if I just got finished eating spaghetti with my hands. "I'm going to remove the dagger, okay? It's probably going to hurt a lot, so I suggest you hold somebody's hand or something." I let out a small gasp as he pressured the dagger and through gritted teeth said, "Dammit, I'm not giving birth, just take it out!"
  7. I held onto James' hand anyways and closed my eyes. Ash sighed and gripped the hilt again. "1, 2,...3!" I let out a bloodcurling scream and squeezed James' hand so hard I thought I was going to break it. I forced my eyes open and saw blood gushing out of my thigh, the bone peeking out. Ash tossed the dagger aside and then put his hands over my flesh wound. A light orbited out and hovered over my thigh, the pain going away slowly. I was breathing hard, biting the peak of my index finger as the swelling went down and the wound closed up. Ash wiped his palms on his jeans when he was finished. "Better?" I sighed in relief and nodded vigorously. "Thanks." James went running back to help Auntie Lisa with the prisoners, while Gumbo started sniffing the air. I got up on my feet and flicked my eyes at the two men that I had just killed. Ash caught me staring. "They were bad people. You did the right thing." I dropped my gaze and put on my determined face, which faltered when I remembered what James told me about my eyes. "Let's just meet up with the others."
  8. Christofer and Michael were hovering up in the air, waiting on one another to make the first move. Michael laughed once he gathered his bearings. "Did I offend you? You know, I always had a feeling you were behind Oath all the way." He swam around in the air, getting a hang of it. "Funny," Christofer said, "then you should have done something." He lowered Michael down a little bit, causing him to get off balance a little. "I didn't want to make myself look like an idiot if I was wrong. Besides, if I did then I'd never get to meet the girl that you care so much for. I actually locked her in the dungeon a few minutes ago. That little b--ch. She's a waste of time." Christofer's anger flared up inside him. Michael grinned and then took a swing with his club. Christofer ducked expertly, knowing what he had to do. Michael returned to his spot. Christofer looked mad. "Don't take about her like that." He lowered Michael a little lower until he was in the very center. He laughed again. "Why? It's true. She's better off with me. I would just keep her locked up in my room and then play around when I'm bored and—" He didn't have the time to finish as Christofer drew a knife from the back into his chest. Michael's grin fainted away from his face as Christofer dropped him on the ground. He lowered himself and landed lightly on his feet. He grabbed the dagger from Michael's chest and tossed it away carelessly. "She's worth every second of my life," Christofer said to an almost dead Michael. "And she stabbed you with an arrow. That's one of the reasons why I love her."
  9. Alex sat down on the couch, too occupied with his thoughts to think of the original plan. Misty sat down beside him, but she didn't do anything but that. "I'm real," was all she said. It was silent for a while. He could smell her familiar scent of sugar cookies; one of the many reasons why he loved her. "You're supposed to be dead," he muttered. Misty touched his knee. "I am, but I'm not." Alex tensed up. "What do you mean? You died in my arms." He stood up and turned his back on her. He could hear her sigh. "Alex, let me explain." He looked over his shoulder at his first love and remembered the first time he saw her at school. He remembered how vulnerable she looked whenever she was sleeping, curled up in a ball like a cat, or a rabbit. He remembered their first kiss, under the mistletoe outside her front door on a cold December night. He remembered everything. He turned around and gestured her to tell him. She scrunched her nose up—something she always did when she was nervous. "I was given another life." Alex could tell she saw his confusion on his face, so she went on. "When I died, part of my soul stayed behind instead of going to the next world. When that happens, if the part is big enough, you can create whatever form you want to be. I chose myself. Although because it's not a full soul, I don't look very life-like."
  10. Alex started pacing back and forth. "So you were still alive all this time I thought you were dead?" Misty looked down and then nodded. Alex turned away. "Ever since. Ever since you died, I've been torturing myself with pain and sadness, and I've been living with this hole in my heart knowing that you weren't there to fill it anymore. I cried for you. I watched the light shine away from your eyes and held you as your body went cold. I loved you with everything I had, and every day I spent mourning over you, you were alive?" Misty's eyes started tearing up. "Alex—" "Why didn't you tell me!" He shouted. Misty stood up. "I wanted to, Alex. You don't understand, I couldn't find you!" He didn't show any sign of replying so she went on. "When you reform, you do so in another dimension, and you have to find your way back to where you came from. I tried looking for you everywhere, and I couldn't find you until I met Xavier. He said his brother knew you, and that you were going here, so now here I am. I was going to tell you. I swear it." He relaxed and sat back down. "Why did Oath let you in?" Misty sat down next to him, a few inches away. "He heard about me. He said he wanted to meet his son's ex girlfriend."
