Okay so first I’m gonna say my opinion and lay out some of the basis that I know:
Disneys live action is certainly going to be interesting. I wasn’t that concerned at first with Rachel Ziegler being cast as Snow White even though she is Latin American, because even though her skin might not be “as white as snow” she was still talented enough that I didn’t really mind. Plus there is the fact that back then that was the beauty standard and now we have different ones. Then the problems started.
First Rachel Ziegler has stated multiple times that she doesn’t even like Snow White or the story. She also said she has only watched the movie once then never looked at it again. This is a problem for me because I think actors should research the role even if they don’t like the character. Also if you don’t want to play Snow White then don’t many people would kill for that role.
Next the dwarves. Listen I see how calling a shorter person a dwarf can be offensive, but these aren’t supposed to be people, their mythical creatures. Also the fact that Disney is trying to be inclusive by making them “magical creatures” instead of dwarves and hiring actors of all heights is also being kinda un inclusive. Shorter actors have a much harder time finding work especially in Hollywood and by giving roles that they could actually get to other people just takes away opportunities from them.
Finally the plot. Okay I agree that there should be a few more minor changes to the plot to make it less creepy. And Rachel Ziegler did have a good point that the prince was a creepy stalker in og movie. But I don’t think that completely erasing that part of the storyline is the right approach. Instead they could add the fact that they were childhood friends or they were in a secret forbidden romance. Also I think Snow White dosent need to stop thinking about romance and finding love. Women can be amazing leaders, take initiative, and be powerful while still wanting to fall in love. By taking that away you are indirectly telling girls that if they want to be powerful they can’t fall in love or get into a relationship and once they do they lose that power and independence.

Also if you want more diversity then make something else. If u just substitute things into a story or just makes it seem like you’re checking off a checklist. Make something new to have real diversity so that it’s more relatable and can actually count as diverse.

the live actions are all cash grabs so I'm not too concerned with it, but Disney ought to know that if they suck the joy and magic out of all the movies they make that they're going to lose fans. The hand drawn ones should be untouched and everything after 2010 is allowed to be merched and live actioned as much as they please in my opinion.
I knew it was all going downhill once they made Mulan and Lion King live actions though. -
I think Disney are doing all these remakes to take out the inappropriate content in the original movies, like the racist crows in Dumbo and so on. The true love kiss in Snow White made sense; Snow White could only wake up if she was kissed by her true love. How is Snow White supposed to save herself when she's asleep?
The fact that they're changing the seven dwarves in ridiculous. I don't find it offensive, but then again I'm not a "dwarf". It completely erases the nostalgia.
I don't have a problem with the casting, but I think hey should've casted actual "dwarves" (short people). There are many short actors out there, or even comedians.
These things just completely ruin the magic of it. I understand that now people are feminists and such, but it's ridiculous how much they're changing it. Cartoons can express so much more emotion and such, but love actions suck a everything out of it.
And now Disney live action villains have his terrible backstory. "Hey, I'm evil, but just kidding I'm not because I have a terrible backstory."
