Can you live by the values of Henry David Thoreau?

Henry David Thoreau, a very wise man, was considered the "hermit" of his time, yet many of his closest friends claimed quite the contrary. Regaurdless, Thoreau's quotes prove to be true words of wisdom, however "hermit -ish" they may sound.

So, are YOU wise enough to understand and follow Thoreau's quotes in your daily life? Note: if i have misrepresented any of the meanings of the quotes, i apologize ahead of time.

3. As you are sitting around watching junk television, you realize that you really dont know whats going on in the world right now, suddenly, Thoreau's quotes pops into your head: "A man is wise with the wisdom of his time only, and ignorant with its ignorance." What does this mean to you?
it means i shouldnt care about the times i am in and continue to watch junk television
this means i should learn more about my times, and not resort to ignorance.
4. When stuck in the situation of either telling your friend the truth that you were the one who erased all the songs on their ipod, the following pops up in your head: "Be true to your work, your word, and your friend." You then decide:

5. You suddenly have a dream that tells you to pursue becoming an actor. you know that you have always enjoyed movies, and see a possible future in the profession, upon evaluation, Thoreau's quote: "Dreams are the touchstones of our character."
this means that i should pursue this dream, as it will have a positive effect on establishing my character
this means i should forget my dream, it probably had nothing to do with my character anyways.
6. For the first time in forever, you are sitting alone on your couch with nothing to do. According to thoreau you decide: "I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude."
Once in a while, being alone is okay, maybe i wont really feel too lonely
I will never be alone, that makes me a social outcast, im calling my friends right now.
7. In your wiki project with your group, one person seems to REALLY want to add in a song that most of you arent familiar with. And frankly, even though it may go with the prompt you think the song is a little... awkward. You: "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."
Forget it! This project is for a grade! people are actually going to have to hear this music!
Its okay, let him beat to his own drum, he might actually earn us a few extra points...
8. Your friend and you get into some trouble with the teacher, you have to choose between saving yourself (who is at fault) or saving your friend (who is innocent in the matter) this is when this quote pops into your head: "If the law is of such a nature that it requires you to be an agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law." you decide:
I decide to "break the law" and choose to give my friend his justice and not punish his innocence.
I decide to allow my friend to fall into injustice as he is punished for something he did not do.
9. When you are filling out a questionaire, you realize that you have had quite a bit of regrets in your life, on the bottom of the page, a thoreau quote is displayed: "Make the most of your regrets. . . To regrets deeply is to live afresh." what is this advocating?
i should keep listing my regrets and keep feeling sorry for myself
i should realize the importance of my regrets and then realize that these mistakes will still help me create a better more improve life, with an improved charactor.
10. Your in that period of time, where nothing seems fun or interesting to you anymore. A quote from Thoreau pops up in one of your old school spirals: "None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm." Your reaction:
I need to be more enthusiastic, or im just bringing my self closer to old age!
I dont care. im bored.
11. You are arguing with your parents about getting a new laptop, but your parents say that at this point, they can not afford to buy it for you. Your mother tries to explain it to you by stating this thoreau quote: "That man is the richest whose pleasure are the cheapest." your response:
tell your mom you dont care and throw a temper tantrum
tell your mom you understand and know that it is better for yourself and others to take pleasure in the simpler things in life.
12. An ex felon in your community, is working hard to repay his debt to society by doing community service, and has proved himself a very, very reliable man. but others, are apprehensive. The felon tries to persuade your community with this Thoreau quote: "What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us." what do you decide to do:
You decide to rally for him, it doesnt really matter what happend in his past, what matters, is his true repentance and sense of service that lies within him.
i dont care. he might be a threat to my community. he needs to leave.
