To preserve and foster Catholic culture in a time and place where society is growing increasingly hostile towards the Church. To protect and raise our families in the faith. To serve as a stronghold where Catholics can find refuge and renewal, then sally forth into the wider world with renewed vigor. To recreate a simpler, better time. 7. What relationship, in your opinion, should a Benedict Option community cultivate with modern technology? Technology is great, if used appropriately. No limitations should exist; we're not Amish. I personally would prefer to live as simply as possible, but I can see why some might need/want more. The community should strive as a whole to live as simply as possible, to eliminate distractions and to foster sustainability. 8. What would education look like in an ideal Benedict Option community? Families should send their kids to the best schools in the area, whatever that may be. The community should try to establish schools which foster scholastic vigor and thoughtful, informed faith. Homeschooling should be the go-to method. Apprenticeships and trade schools for most, and send the more scholarly ones off to a good Catholic college later. 9. What option best describes your ideal community? A tiny, remote hamlet or farming town. A small to midsize town with some central development but lots of rural area too. A large town with a roughly even mix of urban and rural. A small city, well-developed but with some open country near the outskirts. A large city, mostly if not entirely urban in nature. 11. At the moment, how feasibe is it for you to relocate? I can relocate easily. I can relocate, but with some difficulty. I can relocate if necessary, but I would prefer not to. Trade and travel are good, but we must be wary of becoming too reliant on others. "Outside world"? No such thing. We're in the world, and we must face that.
